Apples and Snakes presents Hit the Ode, Birmingham’s premier poetry night. Every month, Hit the Ode brings the most exciting poets from the region, the country and the world to the heart of Birmingham. Join us at our new home, The Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome for poems from all across the world. We have poems and lots of them. Poems to ruffle feathers and caress your heart strings. Poems that will challenge your nan to a hip-hop cypher. Poems that taste like hot cocoa. Good poems. Great Poems. Come and get them.

From Baltimore, Kondwani Fidel
Kondwani Fidel, author of Raw Wounds has been featured in Washington Post, Mic, CNN, and elsewhere, and has made multiple television appearances on RT America. He has been published in The Root, The Afro, and City Paper. 
Fidel is a 2016 recipient of the ‘Ford: Men of Courage Award,’ and a M.F.A. Candidate at the University of Baltimore, concentrating on Creative Writing and Publishing Arts. He is from, and currently lives in, Baltimore, Maryland.

From London, Caroline Bird
Caroline Bird (1986) is a British poet, playwright and author. She studied English Literature at Oxford University and was president of the Oxford Poetry Society. The author of five collections, Caroline has won the Dylan Thomas Prize, an Eric Gregory Award and has been shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize among many others.

From Birmingham, Nafeesa Hamid
Nafeesa Hamid is a British Pakistani spoken word poet and playwright. Her work covers taboo themes such as sex, domestic violence and mental health. She was invited as a performer at TedxBrum 2016 (Power of Us). Nafeesa is published in the anthology The Things I Would Tell You: British Muslim Women Write by Saqi Books, edited by Sabrina Mahfouz and currently working on a collection with VERVE poetry press.
