Calling all local writers, poets, authors, publishers and illustrators... The first ever Kings Heath Writer's Market will take place at on Saturday 6th April at the Kings Heath Baptist Church (80 High Street, Kings Heath, B14 7JZ).
Welcome to the October 2018 Birmingham Literature Festival!
@BhamLitFest are delighted to present 10 days of inspiring, thought-provoking and entertaining events in venues across Birmingham city centre, which not only showcase great books and writers from the UK and abroad, but also create space to bring people together for great conversation and ideas.
Our programme is packed with events celebrating words, books and ideas in many forms. We've sought out the most exciting up-and-coming writers alongside well-established names, with events including panel discussions, author talks and new book launches, writing workshops, nature walks and a trip on-board a narrowboat. Performance also plays a huge part in this year’s festival, with shows that fuse theatre, music and storytelling, and others that combine poetry and even live cooking on stage.
As part of this year’s festival, it has also been a joy to work with journalist and writer Sathnam Sanghera who has curated some very special events with key writers from the West Midlands, about which you can see more below.
We hope you feel as excited by this programme as we are, and we look forward to seeing you in October.
Festival Of Audacity is a multidisciplinary festival of activist art making all of Birmingham its stage from Thursday 27th - Saturday 29th September.
Festival of Audacity exists because for art to have a real impact, it needs to be bold.
We want to make space for young creators to take risks and reach people beyond traditional arts venues. After almost a year of planning, over 100 applications, and an unfathomable amount of meetings, we are so excited to introduce you to the programme. Enjoy. Share. Most importantly, have fun exploring new spaces, discovering new art, and seeing the city differently.
Festival Of Audacity spans three days; kicking off on Thursday with Pass The Mic and HEADSPVCE X BLAB, followed by a selection of artists performing throughout the city centre, disrupting traditional spaces and making the city their stage on Friday and Saturday.
The primary way to take everything is to join us on The Tour - a guided walking trip through Birmingham with stops at each festival act. The tour is led by BAIT*, with exclusive performances in between stops and plenty of time to pause and rest when needed.
Please note: We will begin at New Street Station, and end on Moat Lane in Digbeth. You can join the tour at the halfway mark or stick around for the whole journey. There will be access support during the whole tour.
The tour will feature work from Duncan Robertson, DYSPLA, James George Monaghan, Edalia Day, Lanre Malaolu, Liz Ord, louise and kia yee, Sarah Maple, SHADE, Maconchy String Quartet and BAIT*.
*Birmingham Artivists In Training: a group of multi disciplinary art activists from Birmingham. They will be guiding you on the tour as well as providing ‘entertainment’, or provocations, as they like to call it through different ways.
Don’t forget to tell us what you think using #FestivalOfAudacity and @FreeRadicalUK.
